Our main principle in working with our dogs is that their well-being always comes first

When our dogs know that we respect them and we're ready to do everything for them, they're willing to work hard with us to fulfill our clients' dream to spend one day as a musher. Huskies' motivation for work is something that you have to see by yourself.

Huskies are well-known for their lovely nature

Most of our dogs are Siberian Huskies but we also have some Alaskan Huskies. We have 100 dogs and approximately 80 of them are in the best working age. Huskies can work in extremely cold conditions which is very important since we're living in Finnish Lapland. All our dogs have names which they know and listen to when we call them. It’s very important when working with them and also makes our life easier when letting them run free.

Puppy Power

We’ll get puppies only when we need some more young power to our pack. Usually we have one or two litters a year. We never sell our puppies to be sure dogs who are born in our place will have a good and respectful life. Younger dogs will be trained well before they start working with others and older dogs are working less and having more day-offs.

Our Dogs Are a Part of Our Family

As an addition to our outdoor kennels we have renovated an old barn for our huskies. It offers great shelter in winter and it’s cooler in the summer which is also something that huskies appreciate. As cushion we use dry straws so our working mates can rest their heads. We keep two to three dogs in the same kennel but pretty often we change their places and partner so that they get used to be with everybody.

Oldies but goldies

We always keep our dogs as long as they can live a healthy life with good mood. Normal age for our retired huskies is from thirteen to fifteen years. The oldest was Ginny who was sixteen and half years old. Usually a 12 year-old husky is still able to work shorter trips with more rest. Finally, when they get too slow to be part of the team they're having well deserved retirement days. They're hanging out with youngsters and teaching them how to behave. I suppose they also tell stories of how life was when they were young and strong.

active life around the year

In summer when the weather is too warm for training the dogs we let them run and play in a big group in our yard. That's very important because huskies as a breed are very active. In autumn when the weather gets cooler we start the training period for the upcoming winter season. That way we make sure they are fit and in good condition when the working season starts in the end of November.

What People Say About Our Dogs

What People Say About Our Dogs

Lauri's dogs are beautiful, gentle and most of them love a chin rub and to be made a fuss of

"I definitely sit on the cat side of the cat dog divide, so I was slightly nervous about going somewhere where there were going to be lots of big, loud, vicious looking dogs.
WRONG. Lauri's dogs are beautiful, gentle and most of them love a chin rub and to be made a fuss of.
They are looked after really well and Lauri and his wife know all 60 dogs by name and treat them all as members of their family. Ignore anything you have heard about the dogs being vicious and mall treated. In the case of Kota Husky this is not true."

It's evident that the huskies are well looked after and it’s so important to do your research before booking this kind of trip

"The huskies are incredible animals, so vibrant and full of energy, passion and life. They have a great leader in Lauri who clearly adores his dogs. They each have names and he even knows them by their bark! It's evident that they are well looked after and it’s so important to do your research before booking this kind of trip. The dog's welfare is of utmost importance. I highly recommend Lauri and his team."

The dogs are not only part of the Kota Husky team, they are also part of the family

"The dogs are not only part of the Kota Husky team, they are also part of the family and this is evident when Lauri talks about the dogs and their different traits and habits. He knows the dogs intimately and you can see his love of them."

- Angus D. on Tripadvisor

They really love their dogs and their dogs really seem to love them. That’s one happy husky family!

"When we got back after our ride, the huskies quietly waited while Marika called them by name into a large enclosure. It was super watching her call the huskies one by one, each one sat calmly in front of her as she removed their harness. They really love their dogs, and their dogs really seem to love them. That’s one happy husky family!"
